More information on your stay at Skelwith Fold

Skelwith Fold is a unique and special holiday park and a beautiful home from home for our guests. Set in 130 acres of woodland in the heart of the Lake District National Park, we have 320 privately owned static caravan holiday homes. Hiring out of holiday homes is not permitted. For tourers and motorhomes we offer 150 hard standing pitches to the highest of standards. Skelwith Fold offers 3 toilet and shower blocks of an excellent standard (two of which even have underfloor heating!), along with laundry facilities, a trust library and children’s adventure playground. Skelwith Fold Caravan Park strives to ensure that all guests and visitors can enjoy the facilities and surroundings within the Park. Our aim is to help in any way we can and if you require any assistance during your stay or whilst planning your visit we will be delighted to offer our services.

Location and arrival

There are several ways to contact the park, listed in the contact section of this statement.

On arrival to the park there is a drive of 0.6 miles from the main gate, the drive way has a slight incline which levels out at the barrier, the barrier is automated.

Reception is clearly signposted and is situated in the centre of the park.

Parking is available outside reception on a level tarmac driveway (for checking in only).

A 10 mph speed restriction is in place around the park.

Our pitches are all hard-standing and offer parking adjacent to the pitch. Although we do not allocate pitches, we do reserve the most accessible pitches for our disabled guests (bookable by telephone only).

From the main ‘red’ road which runs through the centre of the park there are several smaller roads, some of these may be unsuitable for wheelchairs users, information will be given at reception and on arrival wheelchair users will be directed to designated areas situated close to disabled toilets/showers and the main reception.

Keys to the disabled toilet/shower room and family bathroom can be issued on arrival or during your stay. A £20 deposit is required which will be refunded on return of the key at the end of the guests stay.

There is a bus stop located at the main gate of the park which is 0.6 m from main reception, bus timetables can be found at reception.
The nearest town is Ambleside which is 1.5 miles from the park.

A post box is situated at the rear of the park along the tarmac road 0.3 miles from reception.

Taxi numbers can be found at reception.

Main entrance, reception and shop

Access to reception is directly from a level tarmac surface with no ramp or threshold. The doorway is 2.1meters wide and automated in operation.

Once inside the light and airy building there has ample room to manoeuvre a wheelchair to the counter that is 90cm high. The area is well lit.

The shop is situated in reception and the aisles are wide.

Public Areas – General

One public phone box is available opposite the reception building.

In emergency situations only the Duty Wardens can be called out via a mobile phone number which is indicated on the reception door and in the information pack provided to all guests on arrival. The Duty wardens are located within 20 meters of the main reception.

All our signage is clear with high contrast lettering and background colours, with all fire signs and assembly point signs to regulation specification.

Public Areas – WC, Laundry, Library

The park has three toilet block’s which are situated at various points around the park near the touring areas.

The Laundry room is a very spacious room suitable for wheelchair users, access to the room is via a ramp with double doors.

Please note assistance would have to be provided in the laundry room as some of the equipment would be difficult to use from a seated position.

The library is situated next door to the laundry room with access from the same ramp. This is also a spacious room. The entrance is a standard door width.

Outdoor Facilities, Grounds and Gardens

The park has a well-equipped children’s play area which is sited at the North of the park.

The surface of the play area is grass and astroturf.

Customers are free to walk through both the Touring and Static parts of the park. Wheelchair users should be aware of some hills and loose gravel. Access to the woodland areas is not suitable for wheelchair users or those who have difficulty walking. Much of the Park has been kept in its natural state, some areas are not suitable for wheelchair users, please enquire at Reception where we can give you advice on areas that are level.

Litter bins and dog waste bins are located all around the park.

Dogs are welcome at the park and can walk around the grounds and woodland areas, however they should be kept on a lead at all times.

Caravans, Holiday Homes & Twin Units

Static Holiday Homes on the park are supplied with a 3 concrete step set with hand rail on one side.
Vehicle parking is allocated on each pitch next to the unit.

The usable area of the pitch can be hard surfaced if requested. Charges may apply.

Specialist Holiday Homes from various manufacturers can be brought in to suit the specific demands and access requirements of customers.

Most of the pitches allow for ramps to be installed to aid access if required.

Staff can advise on what we have to offer when contacted.
