Staycations in the Lake District
Out & About
Recent events mean that more of us are now opting for a UK holiday than ever before. Increasing numbers of people are discovering the beauty of holidaying in our own country for the first time and appreciating our own ‘backyard’ a little bit more.
Many people of course choose to head to one of the wonderful national parks we are fortunate to have in the UK. We might be a bit biased but we think none are more appealing than the Lakes. For staycations in the Lake District we’ve picked out 8 of the best reasons to visit.
Fresh air and open spaces
During recent months we’ve all had to adapt to different restrictions. However with an area of over 2300 square kilometres we know that social distancing is not difficult to achieve in the Lakes. For those wanting to experience the freedom of wide open spaces the Cumbrian countryside is an ideal destination. Immerse yourself in all the shades of green, blue and brown that our landscapes have to offer and find your own little piece of tranquillity.

Miles of trails to explore on two feet or two wheels
If you enjoy exercising away from busy areas a staycation in the Lake District might be just the ticket. Whether you prefer hiking, running or off road mountain biking the Lakeland fells will be waiting for you and help you get your trail fix.
Take in the jaw dropping scenery whilst you conquer some of the famous peaks such as Helvellyn, Scarfell Pike and The Langdale Pikes. If you prefer your thrills on two wheels then head to Grizedale Forest, Loughrigg Terrace or Whinlatter Forest. The purpose built mountain bike trails here have varying degrees of difficulty so all abilities can enjoy themselves.

Environmentally friendly holidays
Staycations in the Lake District are much kinder to the environment compared with taking a holiday abroad. If you travel to us by car or public transport there is of course no flight pollution. Plus, we like to think that a domestic holiday travel is a heck of a lot less stressful than the process you have to go through at an airport.
Overall your carbon footprint of taking a UK break will be significantly lower than if you choose to fly. And if you’ve already made the switch to an electric vehicle we have charging points on the park to enable to get to all the places you wish to visit during your visit.

Easy transport access
With great transport links running in and around Cumbria, it’s quick and easy to get to the Lake District. You can be door-to-door in your own vehicle in around 4.5 hours from London. For those who live closer by we’re only 2.5 hours from Birmingham and Glasgow and just 1.5 hours from Manchester and Newcastle.
If you wanting to travel by train the nearest West Coast Main Line station is Oxenholme. This serves as a good base to explore Kendal and the surrounding areas. Depending on which part of the Lake District you wish to visit, you can also get trains to Windermere, Carlisle, Barrow, Kendal and Penrith.
Great attractions
There are no shortage of first class attractions and things to do in the Lake District. For adventure enthusiast head to Go Ape where you can get into the tree canopy on high ropes or take on their zip wire course. For a more relaxed pace, check one on the many National Trust properties such as Sizergh Castle, Wray Castle or Hill Top. Alternatively their open spaces such as Fell Foot are a perfect spot for a family picnic. Check out other great National Trust days out in the Lakes.

Dog friendly holidays
Figuring out what to do with the dog when you’re planning to go away can be stressful. However with a UK holiday the opportunity to bring your four legged family member along for the fun couldn’t be easier. And with miles of new walks to discover a trip to the Lake District is sure to get their tails wagging.
There are now a whole host of accommodation providers in the Lakes who accept dogs and we are no exception. As a dog friendly holiday park we love to welcome dogs of all shapes and sizes to our site.
