Orrest Head
Orrest Head is one of the most popular viewpoints in the Lake District and it’s easy to see why! From the summit, you can enjoy far-reaching views across Windermere. The elevated position also rewards walkers with spectacular views of the surrounding fells.
One of the best things about this route is the ease of which it can be accessed. Seldom can you enjoy such wonderful vistas without having to endure a strenuous hike!
Start the walk next to the Windermere hotel and follow one of the waymarked trails to the top. There are a few steeper section’s through the woodland, but it’s relatively easy on the whole! Half way up there are Gruffalo themed sculptures, which younger members of the family will love! There’s even a coffee stop (subject to opening hours) en-route to help you refuel mid-walk.
Accessible route
The 3 mile round trip is part of the ‘miles without stiles’ initiative, which aims to improve access to the lakes. If you’ve got limited mobility, we recommend following the blue signs – this route is suitable for wheelchairs, pushchairs and all-terrain scooters.
