Catbells
Catbells is one of the best-loved fells in the Lake District and for good reason, its absolutely beautiful. This popular hill is situated behind Derwentwater and rewards walkers with breathtaking views from the top.
Walking up Catbells
Hiking this fell is a great option for families thanks to the ease of access and relatively simple route. It stands at just 451 metres, which is doable for most wakers with a good level of fitness.
There are waymarkings to follow along the whole route, so there’s no map work involved. There’s a little bit of a scramble to get to the summit, but this only adds to the adventure in our eyes!
If you’re not into walking, you can still enjoy the Catbells. Pack a picnic and spend some time soaking up the scenery.
The area is also popular with photographers looking to capture the scenery and sweeping lake views.
Getting to Catbells
This is one of the most popular walks in the Lake District, so it can get busy, especially during the spring and summer months. Parking is limited at the start of the walk, so you might need to head out early to try and get a space.
For something a bit different, consider the ‘Park and Sail’ option! Park and Keswick launch and enjoy a scenic boat cruise across Derwentwater before continuing on foot!
