Things to do in the Lake District this Autumn
Out & About
Autumn is one of the best times of the year to visit the Lake District National Park. As the days get shorter, the region gets quieter, allowing you to experience beauty spots without the crowds.
September and October are typically crisp and bright, providing the perfect conditions for spending time in the great outdoors. There’s so much to see and do at this time of year, especially if you’re in to admiring beautiful scenery and nature.
Here’s our pick of just some of our favourite things to do in the Lake District this autumn. There are so many activities and attractions within easy reach of our holiday park in The Lakes, you’ll be spoilt for choice when deciding how to spend your touring or glamping break.

Jump on a boat trip to take in the scenery
Boat trips are a great way to explore the Lakes and appreciate the surroundings from a different perspective! They’re also great if the weathers taken a turn for the worse, because you can enjoy the water from the warmth of the cabin.
Cruises head out across Windermere, the largest lake in England, from 3 piers around the lakeside – Ambleside, Waterhead Bay and Bowness Bay. Our personal favourite provider is Windermere Lake Cruises, which offer a variety of scenic cruises to cater to guests’ preferences. We always recommend buying tickets beforehand to avoid disappointment.

Visit The Lakeland Wildlife Oasis
Perhaps not the first activity you think of when visiting The Lake District, but a great option if you’re looking for a fun activity with the kids.
Located just 5 minutes from M6 Junction 35, and in the Arnside and Silverdale Area of Natural Beauty, the Oasis is easily accessible from our holiday park. The wildlife park is home to over 100 species, including mammals, fish, reptiles and birds.
What sets The Lakeland Wildlife Oasis apart from other zoos is the opportunity to meet the animals 1 to 1, supervised by a keeper. You can feed the snow leopards, meet meerkats, monkeys, reptiles and more. Please beware that age restrictions may apply.

Enjoy a historic train ride across the National Park
Ideal for a rainy and cold day, climb onboard a very special steam train and travel back in time. The Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway is the perfect addition to your time in the Lake District, transporting passengers to Lakeside Station, where you can find connections to hop on a cruise around the lake with Widermere Lake Cruises.
What makes the train ride even more special is that both station and train are dog friendly, so your furry friends can ride as well!
