The Greenhouse

The Greenhouse at Skelwith Fold is a large holiday home in the Lake District. It is well suited to adventurous groups looking to enjoy a cycling or walking holiday in the The Lakes. It’s situated in an excellent location, within easy reach of some of the National Park’s best loved towns and villages, including Windermere and Hawkshead. The Greenhouse is available to rent for short breaks and week long stays throughout the year. It’s the perfect base for extended families looking to holiday together.

The holiday cottage occupies an enviable position within the grounds of Skelwith Ford Caravan Park on the outskirts of Ambleside. It was custom built and sits on the foundations of the former Skelwith Manor which dominated the Skelwith Fold Estate until the 1950s.

Large Group Accommodation in The Lakes

The Greenhouse is among the best large group holiday cottages in The Lake District. It sleeps 16 across 6 bedrooms – 4 of which are located on the ground floor, with accessible access into the house. It is perfect for extended family holidays in Cumbria.

The open plan lounge is built around a central mock chimney stack and fireplace which is guaranteed to keep you toasty and warm throughout the autumn and winter. The large kitchen is a chef’s dream, with top quality appliances and plenty of worktop space for preparing tasty home cooked meals.

For your convenience there’s an outdoor boot room and heated utility room, with washer and drier. Best of all, there’s a private hot tub and BBQ area.

Accessible Accommodation in the Lake District

With larger spaces and most of the facilities on the ground floor, the Greenhouse is a great wheelchair friendly cottage. We recommend wheelchair users to stay in the Badger room, as this rooms features ample space to move around and has an accessible wet room with shower (seat and hand rails). This room also has an emergency exit with ramp to the exterior, making it easy for wheelchair users to enter and exit the cottage. Overall, the Greenhouse is a luxurious wheelchair friendly cottage with many modern facilities such as a hot tub and BBQ area for groups to enjoy.

The Greenhouse Layout

Kingfisher, the master suite, has a luxury super-king bed (which can be separated into two 3ft beds on request). The well designed ensuite bathroom has a shower over the bath so you can choose to have a long soak, or refreshing shower.

Badger is our second luxury super-king room, that can be made into a twin room depending on individual requirements (please ask).

The two other downstairs rooms, Squirrel and Fox, provide luxury king size beds with ensuite bathrooms.

Upstairs leads to Mouse, a cute attic room which the children love. It has 3 low small-double (4 foot) beds, accommodating up to 6 children (2 in each bed). Finch, our other double bedroom is accessed through Mouse, but can be locked for privacy. This is an attic room with sloping ceiling and a low king size bed. It has a lovely big window and charming feel. It also has an ensuite bathroom with separate shower and bath. We would generally recommend this room is taken by family members as the children share the bathroom. Due to the sloping ceiling we do not recommend this room for very tall people.

Along the corridor is the play/television room which gives the kids and teens their own place to relax. It has a separate WC (ideal for those staying in Mouse).

All of our bedrooms have their own heating and can be locked individually by keys if required. The luxury curtains and blinds give a near black out, which along with the comfortable beds and fresh air in the day, ensures a good nights sleep.
