Are you looking for a dog friendly caravan park in the heart of the Lake District? Skelwith Fold may just be what you’re after. Our five-star holiday park is located in the stunning woodlands near Ambleside, and it’s the perfect relaxing retreat for families and dog owners to escape from the hustle and bustle of the daily routine.
We understand how love welcoming dogs to Skelwith Fold Caravan Park and provided your four legged friend is well mannered we think they’ll enjoy their stay in our woodland wonderland. As a dog friendly caravan park, we have plenty of space around the park for dogs to be walked and played with, as well as the stunning countryside of the Lakes on our doorstep for longer canine excursions.
Of course, we do ask that owners are responsible with their pets and clean up after them whilst at Skelwith – we have children as well as dogs wanting to use our facilities! They must also be kept on a lead while outside on the park, this is in the interests of the welfare of our furry friends.
Dogs Friendly Accommodation in the Lake District
Of course, some of you might want to take advantage of our glamping units or our luxury cottages. For that reason we have made Wagtail, one of our Family Hideaways, pet friendly. Two of our holiday cottages, Cottage Number One and Number Three also accepts pets and are dog friendly. In both Cottages we’ve provided a large dog crate so that, if you use one, you don’t have to transport your own to the cottage. There is also a 95cm plastic dog bed so you can just bring their favourite blanket.
If you’re coming to the park with your motorhome, our pitches are also dog friendly and guest are able to bring up to a maximum of three dogs per touring caravan.
Endless dog walking locations
The Lake District is the perfect dog friendly getaway, with plenty of beautiful locations where visitors can walk their dogs and explore the natural beauty of the region. Visitors and their four legged friends can explore the local towns, fells and even climb the highest peaks. As a dog friendly caravan park, below we have listed some of the best places that our guests might like to take their dogs for a stroll (or jog, or walk, or whatever you rather!):
- Woodlands – explore our miles of woodland paths and tire out your pooch at the same time!
- Recreation Field – We have a large playing field which is a good flat grassy area to make the most of an extendible lead whilst you and your four-legged friend are on holiday.
- The Local Area – since we have the whole of the Lake District right outside our front door, why not take your dog for a walk in the local area? There is no shortage of walks around Ambleside that you could take, just ask at reception for a map of one of our local walks.
- Lake Windermere – why not take the short walk down to the water with your dog? Most of our furry friends seem to enjoy a good splash!

Dog wash facilities
