Romantic Getaway: The Lake District for couples
Nature
With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, it’s only right to explore things to do in the Lake District for couples. This beautiful region is the perfect romantic getaway destination for couples looking to celebrate a special occasion together, or to simply spend a couple of days away from the hustle of the everyday life.
Have a romantic meal out
It wouldn’t be a romantic getaway without dining out at least once during your stay! The Lake District is home to an abundance of incredible pubs and restaurants, so you’ll be spoilt for choice when choosing where to go.
Our award-winning holiday park is just a short drive from Ambleside, where you’ll find highly acclaimed restaurants, including the Old Stamp House – one of 7 Michelin starred restaurants in The Lakes.
The Boathouse is another of our favourites here at Skelwith Fold. This popular bar and restaurant offers great views of Windermere and is perfect for any occasion – coffee, cocktails or dinner. The atmosphere is very relaxed and informal and it’s only a short 20-minute drive away! What’s not to enjoy?
If you love cosy evenings in front of the fire we recommend the Eltermere Inn. For something a bit different, consider a trip to Zeffirellis. With its Italian-inspired vegetarian menu, cinema and live jazz music, it’s the perfect setting for a date night in the Lake District.
If the weather is terrible and you’d rather spend a cosy night in, then we recommend ordering a pizza from The Sourdough Pizza Co, in Ambleside. With plenty of toppings to choose from and tasty starters, this option is even more special, as you get 10% off your order if you’re an Advantage Club member!
Enjoy a scenic hike with your other half
We highly recommend making some time to enjoy the great outdoors during your romantic getaway in the Lake District. There’s nothing better than exploring the spectacular scenery whilst spending quality time with your partner.
A great walk for all fitness levels is Loughrigg Fell & Elterwater Walk. The hike lasts 4 to 6 hours, with some steep inclines and a few scrambles, but it can easily be tackled with the right equipment. Once you reach the top, you won’t be able to resist the romantic views of Loughrigg Tarn! We have a guide on how to prepare for this hike, including directions from Skelwith Fold.
Looking for a low-level hike with beautiful views and romantic waterfalls? Then Colwith, Little Langdale, Chapel Stile & Elterwater Walk is what you and your partner are after. Some of our other favourite routes include Grasmere Walk, Hawkshead Via the Drunken Duck & Outgate Walk and we suggest Black Crag, Tarn Hows & Little Langdale to expert hikers.
Spend time with alpacas…
Are you a couple that loves animals? If so, this activity is perfect for you. Alpaca Every After provides a home for unwanted alpacas and llamas across the UK and organises unique experiences for anyone that wants to spend time with these animals.
Alpaca Every After offers three different activities: meeting alpacas, walking with alpacas or alpacas trekking. All three options provide a fun way to exercise while reconnecting with nature and learning more about these beautiful animals.
…and have a spa day!
Spa days are ideal for couple to relax, unwind and spend some quality time together. Not only do spas in the Lake District offer many treatments, but also great views of the region!
Low Wood Bay provides a mix of indoor and outdoor treatments that will make you feel rejuvenated and refreshed. Delicious food is also included as part of the visit! The hotel is in Ambleside, only a short car ride away from Skelwith Fold.
Only 30 minutes away from Skelwith Fold and Ambleside, Lakeside Hotel has many amazing treatments you can choose from, and guests can stroll around the gardens, swim in the 17m long pool, unwind in the jacuzzi, and more.
Spend a romantic getaway at Skelwith Fold!
The Lake District has lots of activities on offer for your romantic getaway regardless of the season, whether it’s a cold Valentine’s Day or a warm Bank Holiday.
